This photo has as an added feature 'reality' this is the scene as nature depicted it.
Aesthetic question: would altering the oak leaf's position lessen the aesthetic quality?
First of all, you speak of 'aesthetic quality' as a thing when in fact it is a theory. Qualities are not left over and above the things they cohere with.
Two, I will attempt to answer the question despite this mistake: lessen its quality, meaning make it less 'whatever' 'je ne sais quoi'. In my opinion yes, it would require less courage, perhaps a more easily definable quality. So the natural shot is "better".
"Why better?"
Because, Bozo, all things are in constant wheeling phenomenal manifestation as nature. This means that the "placement" of that oak leaf is synonymous with the ebb and flow, genesis and passing away of the universe. Zen.
So what! Dorkbrain. Add the human ingredient as a series of minor effects within nature and you have got the same thing! Brahma, Vishnu, etc...
"It must make a difference," shouts the artist, I mean the photo is palpably better."
"Palpably?" asked the journalist. "Don't you mean an adverb which does not center on perception? I mean we are talking about qualities."
"What precise, exact, therefore finite, measurable diference are you talking about?" queried the biologist.
Can it possibly make any difference? Hence what is the point of talking about it in the first place.
"Yes, but most language works in this way, I mean we do not scrutinize the language before we throw it into use. Granted some language employs thought and planning or manipulation [as is the case with Google and the Government. (whoops!)] before its deployment upon the dumbed down masses where no child was left behind except The City of New Orleans! But in ordinary use, language should be thought of as a mammalian ritual. Cats purr, dog bark, and humans talk.
The bright student: "So how do you link language and thought?"
The cynic: "Who said that they are linked?"
The hippy: "What man, like you are saying thought and language are not linked? So what is going down right now, is this just like a bad trip?"
"Hard to tell" could be both."
"Both what?"
"You set up a polar dichotomy, you motherfucker, now answer me! Guantanamo, I mean, answer---both what?"
"Why must I always explain?" f^%$ ignoramuses. You implied by saying "bad trip" you meant bad as opposed to 'good' which up to this point had been the topic of investigation. The polar dichotomy dude!
And the point had been interspersed by Hinduism that all is one. Far out, I mean all is one, but it also gets scary.
So you are looking to philosophy for a way to qualm your fear.
Well, yes, no, I mean I am not sure, mutters the legally blonde relativist professor.
"Shelter from the storm, comfort?"
Can there be any relief from all of this questioning and chaos punctuated by ephemeral flashes of beauty and bling the photo?
Either now or later? Does death make any difference?
"Impossible to tell..."
"Oh great, are you guys still at it?" Mom arrives home barking orders: "Bobby get out here now, groceries. Now!"
Why?
She thinks, "I got the food went to all the trouble of going to the store, kids must help," most likely the same with all mammals. It is a ritual, semi-fixed behavior.
"And Billy, did you do your homework?" Again rituals.
Mothering pertains to education. Schoolwork. Did Mom ever stop and consider whether school was not simply a not subtle form of brainwashing---mine did, thank God. [Ut-oh, he used capital 'G'.
The school takes up where she leaves off. What are they teaching the kids at school?
What is teaching, anyway? I mean what is learning? Answer me that first all you superintendents! A charade because you haven't got a clue.
Circle the whole globe over, is there one person out there, I mean one, only one, who knows what is going on?
The President, the Pope, man you have got to be kidding me.
Animals do not have to suffer this. Or do they? Who the hell knows. Do you know Mr. Paleontologist, Dr. Freaking Biologist, etc...? All you grant laden, highly esteemed teachers?
Silence continues.
"Suffer, did I hear you say suffer?" Guantanamo again. The detainees.
